Streaming for Survivors – Streamer Toolkit
Streaming For Survivors – Streamer Toolkit
March 26th – 28th 2021
Streaming for Survivors will take place from March 26th – 28th 2021. More than 35 YouTubers, Streamers and Artists will raise critical funds for survivors of sexualized violence. It’s never too late to join – we will be accepting the help of all streamers willing to get involved up until the final minute of the event! We are here to set you up with EVERYTHING that you need to ensure that your stream is a huge success.
Here are our top tips from WAVAW’s Grants and Major Gift Coordinator Char, who raised more than $8,000 on her stream this past summer!
Do a Practice Run of Your Stream Before You Go Live
A dress rehearsal before the big show is always a good idea. We recommend familiarizing yourself with the technology you will need such as Tiltify, Twitch, and Zoom. Not sure where to start? We have a handy How To Create A Tiltify Fundraiser one pager! Once your Tiltify account is linked up, and you have played around with hosting a fundraiser and stream on Twitch, you can be confident that your stream will be glitch-free!
Have All Team Members Invite Folks to Donate
In these uncertain times, many folks are feeling helpless and are wondering what they can do. Philanthropy is reciprocal, and connecting people to causes that directly impact the lives of vulnerable people, and communities has a positive impact on the lives of donors! With everyone on your team spreading the news of your fundraising stream to friends and family, you’ll ensure everyone has the opportunity to make a difference, and it feels good to know that donations are making a difference right away. Speaking about the need and inviting specific gift amounts is a great way to inspire people to give, and let people know exactly what their donations are achieving. Feel free to share these graphics on your stream!
Posting about your livestream on social media is a great way to get the word out about your fundraising event. Make sure to include your custom Tiltify fundraiser campaign link so that folks can donate before the stream starts, and use the hashtag #StreamingForSurvivors. It’s a good idea to post a few times in the month leading up to your event, and again once you go live. WAVAW will provide you with various graphics and blurbs to share, and feel free to get creative and have fun!
Have an achievable goal
Setting a personal fundraising goal will help rally your supporters and invite them to be a part of your success! We suggest starting at $250 if this is your first live stream, or if you have an average audience of 100 people or less. Remember that you can always increase your goal later!
Set up Tiltify incentives
Incentives are a great way to spark your community to give during your live stream. WAVAW is available to help brainstorm incentive ideas that will be tailored to your stream. Some past popular options include live shout-outs, making the streamer do funny things like accents or play with one hand, helping TTRPG players out with extra dice and automatic successes, raffle tickets, personalized thank you videos – the possibilities are endless!
Shout out/Thank your donors
If someone donates to your fundraiser, thank them publicly on social media or live during the stream. A big heartfelt thank you is always appropriate when someone donates, and by doing it publicly for all to see, you may inspire others to give.
Note: If you are expecting to receive many small donations during your stream, it may be a good idea to set a minimum donation amount to receive a shout-out. We recommend a price point of $10 per shout-out if you expect your stream to have 100 viewers or less, and to state that you may not be able to shout-out everyone. If you expect to have over 100 active viewers, we recommend $15-20 per shout-out.
When You Achieve Your Goal – Set a Stretch Goal
If you have momentum and you achieve your initial goal of raising $500 – increase your fundraising goal! Continue to highlight the amazing folks who have supported you in personal ways. Remember to update your goal on Tiltify so that all your viewers can see it and be inspired to give! Feel free to continue upping your goal every time it is achieved to maximize your fundraising potential!
We are so excited to work with you! If you have any questions, please email Char (charlene@salalsvsc.ca). Feel free to share our Streaming For Survivors Poster PDF with other streamers in your community who may be interested in getting involved. We are so excited to change lives with you!

WAVAW Rape Crisis Centre provides free-of-charge, gender-affirming support services to survivors of sexualized violence with shared experiences of gendered oppression including cis and trans women and trans, non-binary and Two Spirit survivors. Support services include victim services, hospital, court, and police accompaniments, and individual and group counselling. Gender-based violence is systemic, and our work goes beyond service provision to advocating for and enacting change within our society to create safer communities. Despite being BC’s largest sexual assault centre, and managing a caseload of more than 300 survivors at any given time, the waitlist to access free-of-charge counselling at WAVAW is almost 2 years long.
