Call for Submissions – Recognition: Trans and Queer Artists on Sexual Harm!
WAVAW Rape Crisis Center is looking for submissions of poetry, prose, and art for our third edition of our zine, Recognition: Trans and Queer Artists on Sexual Harm!
Prioritizing Two Spirit and QTBIPOC voices, we are looking for pieces that reflect the nuance of queer experiences of violence. Chosen artists will receive a $50 honorarium and an invitation to present their piece at our online launch event. We’re also looking for submission of cover art, with an honorarium of $100.
What does sexual violence look like between queer people, and why is it so hard to talk about? How do we talk about bodily autonomy as trans people, when we’re not always allowed to chose our own medical journey? How has quarantine made safety harder to find?
The deadline for submissions is April 1st, , and new writers and artists are encouraged to submit. Please send your work, along with a brief bio, to felix@salalsvsc.ca.
New: Expressive Arts Workshops
We’re excited to be partnering with Canvas (canvasprograms.com) to offer a series of three creative expressions workshops for queer survivors. There will be guided writing exercises on themes around consent and accountability, with the option of submitting your final work to Recognition.
This is a great opportunity for new and seasoned writers to connect with community and to create some beautiful queer art. Artists are encouraged to attend all three workshops, but we can be flexible to accommodate your schedule.
The workshops will be online over three Sundays in March; the 14th, 21st, and 28th, from 2-4 pm. Space is limited to register early! If you are interested, please contact Felix.
