As the Aboriginal Youth Worker at WAVAW you will have the opportunity to shape, guide and facilitate an ongoing group of urban Aboriginal Youth to create deeper connections and understanding of their Indigenous roots leading them to be healthy, dynamic, self-reliant individuals who can actively participate in society, and become the leaders of tomorrow. Job Summary:
The goal of this project is to provide resources, education, facilitation, and support to assist Aboriginal Youth in becoming active and vibrant members of Canada’s economy. At WAVAW, we do this work through integrating traditional Aboriginal teachings, with a feminist, anti-oppression analysis. As such urban Aboriginal Youth can have deeper connections and understanding of their Indigenous roots leading them to be healthy, dynamic, self-reliant individuals who can actively participate in the economy.
Qualifications:
The Aboriginal Youth Worker will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with extensive experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. She will have experience providing individual counselling and support with people who have varied experiences of trauma and marginalization. She will have experience applying an intersectional feminist perspective in responding effectively to clients who have experienced violence. She will have demonstrated success in working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds (e.g. cultural, religious, age, sexual orientation, etc.).
