Creative ways to support survivors this International Women’s Day!
Sunday, March 8th, is International Women’s Day!
International Women’s Day is a celebration of the incredible contributions and achievements of women both within our communities and across the globe! It’s also a day to consider the societal work that still needs to be done to eliminate the systemic oppression and discrimination that women and people of marginalized genders continue to face every day.
This International Women’s Day, several members of WAVAW’s brilliant community have come together to create celebratory events in support of survivors of sexualized violence.
Here are some ways you can make an impact on this International Women’s Day:
- Add a donate link to your International Women’s Day post on social media! Inspire others to make a difference when posting on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram on March 8th, by encouraging your followers to invest in a future free from violence by donating to support survivors! Click here to let Facebook do the work for you!
- Hit up Bandidas Tacqueria for some of the best vegetarian food in Vancouver! This Commercial Drive hot spot is hosting its 3rd annual International Women’s Day Fundraiser and Art Show and 100% of food and beverage proceeds on March 8th will benefit local, trans-inclusive women-serving organizations — including WAVAW!
- Treat yourself, or someone that you love, to a new piece of beautifully crafted jewellery from Melanie Auld Jewelry from March 7-8th, and 100% of your purchase will be donated to WAVAW.
- Attend A Presentation of Fem Noir by Sheila Northgate. FEM NOIR is a film that exposes the 2,500-year history of sexism and offers a holistic, cumulative perspective on the situation facing women today. Tickets are $20, and proceeds will go towards supporting survivors of sexualized violence.
WAVAW has been supporting survivors for more than 38 years. This International Women’s Day, you can ensure that survivors can continue to receive the free-of-charge support services they need when they need them.
Survivors can’t heal in isolation, — together we grow. Join us in celebrating International Women’s Day, and together, let’s create a future free from sexualized violence.
