Celebrating Queer and Trans Survivors: Recognition Zine 2023!
Call for Submissions
Summer, the season we know for celebrating our community with Pride, is right around the corner! Every year, we celebrate the voices of Trans and Queer survivors with our annual creative project, Recognition. This year, we’re taking Recognition back to its roots by making a classic zine! We believe healing can be found in creativity, and sharing these works with our community inspires solidarity and strengthens community ties. We love collaborating with you for this project every year!
This year, Recognition is giving insight into queer experiences of violence by aiming to answer the questions, “How do you celebrate your community in the face of sexualized violence?” and “What does healing mean to you?”. We’re calling all our creative QTBIPOC survivors to submit their work to the zine! Whether this might be digital art, photography, poetry, prose, and more, we want to see it all!
Submissions featured in the zine will receive a $50 honorarium, and the chosen piece for the cover art will receive $100. The artists will also have the opportunity to present their piece at our virtual launch event! Written submissions have a 200 word maximum, and digital submissions are preferred to be submitted in PDF or JPEG format where possible!
We can’t wait to see Recognition taking shape over the next few weeks – be sure to get your submission in by July 30th, 2023 to sarag@salalsvsc.ca!
