Are You Kidding Me?
There’s such a thing as a camel-toe guard (a.k.a. The Cuchini)? Oh dear dear dear. WAVAW is appalled (but not surprised) by this round-up of six ridiculous products designed to make women’s bodies less “gross.”
Some of us here love shaving our legs and applying nail polish–because it makes us feel good about ourselves and allows us to express an aspect of our identity. But absolutely none of us loves the fact that women are coerced and shamed into all manner of expensive, time-consuming, and often physically and emotionally harmful bodily self-management practices.
Here’s a video that highlights the pressure many women feel to pluck their eyebrows, shave their legs, and much much more… just to venture outside without being subjected to strangers’ squicked-out double-takes. The ridiculousness of our society’s requirements for feminine “beauty” really stand out when we see a guy performing cosmetic routines that are normally expected only of women. Actually, men are expected not to engage in these same routines, which is just one more form of gender-policing.
