An update about our counselling wait times
In November, we told you about a huge victory that we’d had.
We’d reduced our waitlist for counselling services from 24 months to 18 months! This was because of you and the very generous support you’ve provided.
Since then, this story has gotten quite a bit of attention.
For example, yesterday, Sambriddhi Nepal, our Manager of Fund Development, spoke with Roundhouse Radio about our waitlist and why it exists.
The waitlist exists because the provincial government stopped providing core funding to WAVAW 12 years ago. Core funding is money that covers operational costs such as rent. This was a huge financial burden to us. We were worried that we’d have to close our doors.
Thankfully, our community stepped up to fill this gap and connect survivors to the healing they need. Year in and year out, our generous donors have made it possible for thousands of survivors to receive the care they deserve.
We are endlessly grateful for your support.
We’re going to continue to call on the provincial government to do their part. We believe they need to support survivors.
We see a future where there is no longer a waitlist for counselling services.
It’ll take some time to get there, but luckily, we’re surrounded by the most active and dedicated community we could ever ask for.
Thank you for standing with survivors. You make incredible things happen.
Together we are powerful,
The WAVAW Team
