As you may know, WAVAW provides immediate crisis support, support groups, and one-to-one counselling to survivors of sexual assault.

Unfortunately, for the last five years, WAVAW’s wait time for one-to-one counselling has been two years. This is because of a lack of consistent, reliable government funding.

In response to this we have been calling on our community to help us eliminate the wait by donating to WAVAW.

Well guess what ?  YOU’VE DONE SOMETHING AMAZING! 

Our wait time has been reduced by six months, bringing the wait down to 1.5 years!

This is a great accomplishment – and we want to extend our deepest gratitude to you for stepping up when we needed you.

That being said, we still have a long way to go. 

In light of recent events and #MeToo receiving such publicity, I know many of us are looking for ways to take action and support survivors.

On Tuesday, November 28, WAVAW will be participating in Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday takes place after Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Waiting 1.5 years for emotional support following a sexual assault is like waiting 1.5 years for an ambulance. It’s unacceptable and we won’t stand for it.
