Standing Up Against Misogyny among CFL Athletes
For the 16 Days of Action on Gender Violence we are thinking about how we can act when we see sexism in the media…here is an example…
When we at WAVAW heard that a Calgary Stampeder had ‘joked’ via Twitter about the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, we were anything but amused. We decided to call upon the BC Lions to stand up as allies against the culture of violence in men’s sports. Just a few hours after we heard the news about CFL athlete Nik Lewis’s sickening tweet, we had already put together this letter and sent it off. This just goes to show that it doesn’t take much to talk back when we see and hear misogyny in the world around us. We at WAVAW are always taking action in small ways—and so can you.
