Legacy Giving

Make Supporting Survivors Part of Your Legacy

Create lasting change for survivors of sexualized violence, today and into the future.

A legacy gift is a designated donation to a charity of your choice to be gifted through your Will.  Honouring Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre with a gift in your Will is an impactful way to honour survivors, and ensure the work of creating a future free from sexual violence can continue long into the future.

When financial planning, it is possible to include your family and loved ones, as well as the causes that you care about. Leaving a monetary gift or designation to Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre after allocating expenses and bequeathing gifts to those you care will have a significant impact on the lives of survivors. We hope that we can count on your generosity!

Have peace of mind knowing that the organization you’re passionate about will be able to continue the work you value, benefitting future generations to come.

Every Gift Directly Impacts the Lives of Survivors

Anyone can leave a legacy gift to Salal regardless of their wealth. Every single gift, from 2% – 20% will be put to work, ensuring that the survivors who need our services can access the kind of support they need, when they need it. While governments and granting foundations often prioritize programs and services, other critical needs like infrastructure and community outreach are frequently overlooked. We rely on creative streams of generosity, like legacy gifts, to ensure we’re able to expand on our offerings to reach every aspect of our mandate.

Types of Gifts

Bequests are the most common legacy gifts. A bequest is a gift given through your Will, created with support of an estate or financial planner. You can leave instructions indicating how the capital or interest (or both) may be spent on either general or specific purposes. The instructions can be included in your new will, or added as a codicil to your existing will. Though bequests are the most common legacy gift, there are several other options listed below!

You may leave a monetary gift, either as a lump sum or a percentage allocated over a specified timeframe.

You can also leave instructions regarding an estate.

  • “I give all $ (or __%) of the residue of my estate to Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre
    • *This sample wording is provided as information only and does not constitute legal advice. Please contact your lawyer.

You can name Salal as a beneficiary on a new policy or donate an existing policy and receive a significant year-end charitable deduction. There are also estate tax savings.

These are gifts that allow donors to leave a bequest or make a gift while receiving an immediate tax receipt.
