Recognition Volume 2 Call For Submissions
WAVAW Rape Crisis Center seeks submissions for the second issue of our zine, Recognition: Trans and Queer Writing on Sexual Harm!
Prioritizing submissions from QTBIPOC artists, we are looking for prose, poetry, and art that reflect experiences of sexual harm that are often missed in #metoo and in the antiviolence movement.
How does consent work in queer clubs, or hookup apps? How does a community respond when sexual violence happens? How does abuse show up in kink relationships, and what stops us from naming it?
Selected artists will receive a $50 honorarium, and we’re prioritizing artists who are interested in reading their work at our launch event. New writers are encouraged to submit.
This year, we are also seeking submissions for cover art, with an honorarium of $100. Contact felix@salalsvsc.ca for more information!
Some more questions to consider:
- How does abuse show up in kink relationships? What stops us from naming it?
- How does sexual violence relate to colonization, and erasure of 2S identities?
- What happens when survivors of sexual violence go on to perpetrate it themselves?
- How do we heal from sexual violence as trans people?
- How does misogyny put femmes at risk?
- How can queer sex be healing?
Please send submissions and a short bio to felix@salalsvsc.ca by April 1st 2020.
