10 Things That Take Longer than Brock Turner’s Prison Sentence
Brock Turner, Stanford’s star rapist (who can also swim), will be released from prison on September 2. On that day, he will have spent only three months in prison, half of his already miniscule proposed six-month sentence.
So what else can you accomplish in three months? Well…
1. You can get a tattoo removed.
2. You can bike across Canada (give or take two weeks). What are you waiting for? Grab a bike and go see this great nation!
3. You can finish a gruelling school semester. From start to finish, a semester is roughly three months. Oh right, and then there’s an unforgiving exam period. So really, your stressful college semester is going to take you longer to complete than Brock Turner spent in a cell. Try not to think about that too much during one of your all-nighters.
4. You can grow out those bangs you wish you hadn’t cut.
5. You can heal and rehabilitate a broken leg. Between time spent in a clunky air cast, months of physiotherapy, and gingerly walking around for months after, you’re looking at at least twelve months. Careful out there!
6. You can experience a Vancouver summer. (Oh wait, that’s less.)
7. You can go through WAVAW Volunteer Training.
8. A baby can go from crawling to walking. (Seriously.)
9. You can serve a prison sentence for a non-violent crime. Ask William Dufries, Leland Dodd, or Sharanda Jones about their life sentences. “Justice”!
10. Processing the trauma of experiencing rape can also take more than 3 months. Just ask the Stanford Survivor or the women waiting 1.5 years for WAVAW counselling due to lack of government funding or waiting to get their Crime Victim Assistance application approved.
